From
a collection of northwestern woods traditional chair patterns
are used to craft chairs of delicate strength and enduring
beauty.
Oregon
White Oak, Oregon Ash, and Oregon Maple are used
to complement hand shaped seats made from Ponderosa Pine
or California Sugar Pine. Green hardwoods are shaped into
spindles, bows and backs. All bent parts are steam-bent
from
solid wood. Our chairs are constructed using mortise and
tapered tenon,
wedged joints. The wedges lock the joint in place
expanding
the hardwood ends as they are driven home to refusal.

The
greatest majority of original Windsor chairs
were
painted. The paint of that day was lead based,
no longer in production for health reasons.
We
paint our chairs using environmentally safe, non-toxic
milk paint
from "Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company" (www.milkpaint.com).
Milk paint is composed of milk
protein,
lime, clay and earth
pigment such as lampblack, ochre, etc. If you would like
to see some of our custom colors, please contact us at
info@northwestwindsorchairs.com
or call (541) 273-6888.
We
obtain a warm glow, touch sensitive finish on our chairs
by hand rubbing the painted surface and sealing it with Varnish
Oil from "Tried and True" (http://www.triedandtruewoodfinish.com).
